WECU Easter Congress Report

Venue: The Royal Beacon Hotel, Exmouth.  The playing hall is the hotel's main function room.  It is spacious, with plenty of room between players.  A carpeted floor deadens noise.  As might be expected with a hotel, the coffee is expensive, however, there is a licensed bar.

The congress ran smoothly and, in addition to the main prizes, there was a free raffle of book prizes with one prize for each section in each round - a total of 21 extra prizes (this was a 7 round tournament),  to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the congress.

Caterham 2007 (April)
Caterham 2007 Report

Venue: Caterham School.  The tournament hall was a modern performance theatre.  There was plenty of room and players were well spaced out.  It was up a short flight of stairs from the foyer where the bookstall and refreshments were located.  The parents room was in a separate building and there was plenty of outdoor space for juniors to play in.  There was also on-site free parking.

Refreshments: Excellent.  Bacon rolls at breakfast were £1.  At lunchtime, as well as the ubiquitous hot dogs and toasted sandwiches there was a choice of chilli and rice or vegetable curry and rice at £2 each.  Later, there were cakes and pizzas.  Tea, coffee and sweets were available throughout the day.
